Our meeting at the start of December was all about making greetings cards using ink, stencils and stamps. I know my fingers were inky at the end of the session, and I suspect I wasn't the only one!

Tricia's Blackwork Cushion Cover
Last year, the lady who runs Peppermint Purple designed a blackwork design for a stitch along which provided one section each week for the year. She expected a few takers, but the idea exploded, and many, many people throughout the world joined in. I kind of intended to, but never actually managed to get around to it, although I did download the pattern squares. The design was rectangular. Because of the success of last year's stitch-along, she designed another for this year, but this time provided both rectangular and square options. I'm doing the 2021 design as it's published, but decided to use the patterns for last year's design in a square format, and, instead of using various colours, went with a single, varigated thread (Sulky 4118). I finally completed the embroidery, so I added some interfacing, then made it in to a cushion cover which you can see above. If you're interested in finding out more about Blackwork or Peppermint Purple, you can find her here or link with her via Facebook. The 2021 stitch-along pattern is free via her website, or she has a lovely range of other designs which you can buy. My next project is her Periodic Table, and my supplies arrived earlier today!

Tricia's Flower Cards
Tricia said, 'I've been a fan of Susan Tierney Cockburn for some years now. She specialises in making realistic looking flowers from paper and I've bought quite a few die sets she designed over the years. Yesterday, I did an online workshop to make three cards using two of her most recent die sets - Kerria Japonica and Sweet Pea.'
'The first card uses the Kerria Japonica die set and a Spellbinders stamp of the phrase Despite the forecast, live like it's spring.'
'The second card uses the Sweet Pea dies, along with some die cuts supplied as part of the workshop. The diamond fold card looks good, but I find it awkward to make, and the sweet peas are difficult to shape properly. I suspect more practice is required.'
'And finally, the third card uses both die sets along with a sentiment that says No winter lasts forever, so spring skips its turn from the same Spellbinders stamp set.'
'The workshop lasted just over two hours, but there was several hours of preparation to be done in advance - really all we did during the workshop was to makeup and attach the flowers for the first two cards. The third card was done later. It was still fun, and there were participants from all over the world taking part via a private Facebook group.'
